Overcoming the challenges to success!
A true story….and I’m still
sane….I think!
At the beginning of the month, when I’d
looked in my diary, the week starting 20th August 2007, looked like
it would be quiet. However just the opposite occurred as I worked
towards the next phase of my business development. I was excited
because finally it was underway!
I’d had my birthday a few weeks earlier
and as I sat having a birthday tea with my mother I’d said,
“everything I’ve learnt in my life, is now being put
into action’. But I didn’t realise quite how much.
On Tuesday my second photo shoot was scheduled.
I had the weekend to prepare my new outfit which as an ex-fashion
designer and dressmaker, I was sewing. It was an extremely challenging
jacket to sew. I wanted to ensure this was a unique jacket….as
I was branding myself on my uniqueness, in the colours I love, place
I love and it was a marketing exercise for my new presentation.
However on Saturday night my partner’s father
passed away. Consequently, we went shopping for suits and organizing
things, so my sewing time was halved.
On Monday I was chosen for a finalist in the NZ
Sales and Marketing Entrepreneurs award. Great, I thought…a
legitimate reason for buying a new dress as a business expense,
but I needed time was to find one as of course, I didn’t have
anything appropriate in my wardrobe.
On Tuesday the photo shoot happened, albeit I
was rather shattered in my new colour coded outfit but I had a smile
on my face. The photos were ‘interesting’ as I balanced
on a huge ball ‘to get the look’. (Check out my new
conference flyer as I sit in the oyster shell).I had discovered
a couple of pins sticking into me as I sat on it, which I had missed
taking out of the skirt.
On Wednesday evening my daughters 21st dinner
was scheduled and I had family who stayed the night. We waited an
hour for our main meal and then were told the order hadn’t
gone through to the chef. We were given a free bottle of champagne
while we waited longer. We couldn’t drink it as we had to
drive and my 76 year old mother wrapped it up, tucked it into her
handbag and said, ‘nobody will stop me’, and we’ll
have a glass when we get home. Which they did!
At 2.00am on Thursday morning, the phone rang
with the sad news my partners mother had also passed away.
At 9.00am I had a workshop and I had to leave
home at 7.00am, with my bags, which were under my eyes.
My partner not wanting to disappoint me and waste
the $150 ticket, decided he needed something positive and we arrived
at the Hilton Hotel, for our Sales and Marketing awards dinner,
looking glamorous at 6.00pm. Unfortunately I didn’t win…but
great to be a finalist, and not have to cook tea.
On Friday, we attended a very emotional double
funeral. I cooked dinner for ten people from my partner’s
family on Friday night. Lucky I’m great at delegating and
they all wanted something to do, including peeling the roast vegetables
and the dishes!
On Saturday morning my forth appointment for a
video shoot for the True Happiness dvd was scheduled. I finally
made it after some bizarre cancellations for earlier appoints, which
included raining too hard to hear for recording over the noise,
getting lost and another weird reason. I’ve had these before
and it is the challenges the universe sends us, as it endeavours
to test our determination to succeed and help others. In hindsight
after seeing the DVD…I could have put a smile on my face...but
it had been a busy week for me!
On Saturday evening we attended my daughter’s
21st party with her friends,
At 11.00am on Sunday morning I had a motivational
presentation. (I needed it on stress – but I was ‘hanging
in there!)
At Sunday lunch I dropped my partner off with
his family and breathed a sigh of relief. I felt I needed the tee
shirt. I SURVIVED!
I was going to visit my daughters and catch up
on sleep. I had started to unwind …however, I had only just
sat in the drivers’ seat and my mobile phone rang. My daughter
said “don’t worry mum, I’m not hurt, but I’ve
been in a car accident”. I took a huge breathe, another few
doses of rescue remedy and thought, this will make a great story
about stress in a presentation!! And it is!
Here are some survival tips:
- Take deep breathes and blow out the stress.
- Eat good healthy energy food and take vitamins and minerals.
- Drink plenty of liquid (water not alcohol)
- Focus on what is essential, find shortcuts and ask for help.
- Keep Arnica, rescue remedy and other essentials in your handbag
(tip for females only – men won’t have a handbag.
- Continuously ground yourself, with either motions of bringing
your palms down from your shoulders to your hips.
- As you unwind continue taking good physical, mental and emotional
care of yourself. Failure to do so – you’ll get sick
which I did as I thought I’m okay now and cut back on my
‘high care maintenance programme for myself.
